mms can't open defrag it tell me that the c;\windows\system__dfrg.msc.
When I click to open the defrag program this message pops up:MMC cannot open the file c:\WINDOWS\system32\dfrg.msc.This file either does not exist, is not a MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC.So what do i do? I have looked around and I still have the file on the computer but I can't open it at all. My computer needs to defrag very badly. This there a way to get a new file or program? Or can I override this issue?help1 person needs an answerI do too

If you have your windows disc you can follow the instructions below to see if it will solve your issue. Insert the Windows XP startup disk into the floppy disk drive, or insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer. Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console. When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER. At the command prompt, type chkdsk /r. Note there is a space between the letter k and the forward slash. When the scan is complete type exit.
